Div 2 Rd6: Castleconnor 0-8 v Enniscrone 2-8

On Saturday evening we made the short journey to Quigabar. A strong wind blew into the town goal and we played against it in the first half. There was a number of changes to the team from last week with the Langans and Kevin McDonnell unavailable. Rory Healy was home from his offshore duties and stepped right into midfield.
Like all games this year we were very slow to get going and after 4 minutes we were 3 points down.  We got our first score from a Paul Kilcullen free and this was followed by a Tom Cawley point. By the 8th minute we had equalised with a Niall Judge score. Enniscrone however used the wind advantage to great effect and soon lead again. In the 16th minute they made the significant break through with a goal that was a bad one for our defence who let the scorer run 30m without being tackled. They remained in charge up to the break and scored 3 points in the last few minutes of the half to lead 1-8 v 0-3.

We got the first score of the second half from a Patrick Naughton long range effort, but a few stray efforts after this did not help matters. In the 39th minute in a break down the field we managed to break up the attack but two bad passes in out defence ended with an interception and Enniscrone scored a goal.

We were still not contesting with conviction the breaking or loose ball and now with a good lead to defend the Enniscrone lads were winning most of this ball. Niall Judge put over a number of frees for us but we never looked liked pulling this one out of the bag and this was shown with the fact that we never had a shot on goal for the entire game. The game petered out to the end with a final score of 2-8 v 0-8.

This was a very poor display from the lads and they now have three weeks to rectify the situation when we meet the same opposition in the first round of the intermediate championship.
