U12H A2 FINAL: Castleconnor 6 v Naomh Eoin 7

The final took place on Tuesday evening in Markievicz Park. This was the first time the club reached the A grade. We had to field without Colm Naughton and Fergal Boland due to a bereavement. The lads got on with the job despite the loss of two of our finest players.

Naomh Eoin were out of the blocks and had the lead from the throw in. Our lads were back on level terms when a free won by Ruairí Gallagher was sent all the way to the net by Eoin Flynn. We trailed again a minute later but then all our team came to life with Ronan Wilson and Dylan Crean taking over the full back line and Matthew  Blakeney constant running causing lots of trouble. Cian Flynn was fouled out on the left after winning a Dáire Barrins sideline cut, and Oisín finished it off. At this time we had a number of chances which we let go but eventually Matthew Blakeney and Cian Flynn put the finishing touches to a great score. This was quickly followed by another score from play with Paul Ruane and Niall Wilson involved. The concession of two late score before the break in injury time left the scores tied at 4 a piece.

Like the first half Naomh Eoin were off to a quick start and got two quick scores. We managed to keep it at that with Owen Gillard and Ronan Wilson particularly prominent. Rian Winters and Thomas Langan were always available for the quick ball with Daniel Ruane picking up a number of puckouts. Liam Donnegan varied his puckouts well and made a number of good saves. Oisín Flynn brought the scores back to one with 3 minutes to go. There was great excitement at this time and a number of last gasp challenges stopped Dáire Barrins, Ruairí Gallagher and Oisín Flynn scoring. The whistle blew just as Oisín had gone clear and looked to be in a great position to strike the equaliser but it was not to be.

It was a great effort from the lads who showed some great stickwork and willingness to work for the cause especially as their two team mates could not be there. Thanks to the team and management for the dedicated work all year in reaching this high a level.
