This knockout game took place in Corballa on Wednesday evening. Thankfully the rain held off but there was a gale force wind directly across the pitch.

Ronan Wilson was absent but for the first time in 2 months we had Colm Naughton and Ruairí Gallagher back which was a great help. Both teams put on a great 4 quarters play considering the conditions. Andrew Blakeney had the first score of the quarter after being put through by his brother Matthew. Dáire Barrins scored a point from play after good work from Ruairí Gallagher and Oisín Flynn. At the end of the first quarter we trailed 2 v 3.

At the start of the second quarter we took control and got a range of scores from Dáire Barrins and Andrew Blakeney with Colm Naughton coming through the middle to score after a good pass from Jamie Reape. Ross Gilmartin made an excellent catch and was most unlucky when his effort went off the post. At the half time point we had moved into a good lead of 7 v 3.

Daniel Ruane and Rian Winters came on for the second half and they showed good awareness of their team mates finding them with passes. Owen Gillard was the goalie for the evening and was an excellent game and showed great calmness when under pressure. Oisín Flynn got the first score of the quarter which was our only score. At the end of the 3rd quarter we lead 8 v 5.

We soaked up a lot of pressure in the final quarter with Fergal Boland, Brian Durkan and Owen Gillard clearing their lines regularly. Dáire Barrins had his shot on goal saved but Daniel Ruane following up volleyed it to the net to give us a bit of breathing space. We deservedly held out for a 9 v 7 victory and next week play in the finals at Markievicz park. Well done to all the lads who worked extremely hard throughout the game.
