U14 FL Rd3: Castleconnor 1-3 v Drumcliffe 3-7

Friday evening in Oxfield our U14 lads tried in vain in their game versus a much more physically stronger team. However they never let their effort drop and showed some very good touches.

As with all games this year they were slow to get going and seemed to be intimidated by the opposition. Getting the ball past halfway was an issue but when we did it did look like the forward line could do some damage. After James Tully was fouled Sean Carrabine pointed and another score before the break left us trailing 0-2 v 2-4.

We made a very good start to the second half and scored a goal from Sean Carrabine. The home keeper at this time made a few great saves. The greater physical strength of the home team came to the fore then and our keeper Elliot Beardshall and some stout defending from Danny O'Hora, Ronan Gallagher and Niall Judge kept the scoreline close. We won a number of frees near the end but went for goal. The lads will be disappointed with the result but they showed enough that would give management Frank Barrett and Brian Howley hope for the future games.
