30/6/19
It was a massive weekend for the club as we were a host club for the 2019 Feile Competition. As well as having our own U14 team competing we also hosted the Doonbeg U14 team from County Clare. Our girls U14 team Eoghan Rua were also competing in the girls Feile and they hosted Derry team Ballinascreen.
The action started at St Brendans Park on Friday 28th and in action were Castleconnor, Doonbeg, St Josephs from Westmeath, Hollymount Carramore from Mayo. Our own boys fought like tigers but in the end it became apparent we were in a very tough group and we lost both our opening games to St Jospehs and to Hollymount.
The action continued on Saturday morning when we played our final group game against Doonbeg, who came into that game having beaten St Josephs & Hollymount well. In the end Doonbeg ran out 2 point winners but our lads gave them a mighty run for their money.
The final game in Castleconnor was the meeting of Eoghan Rua and Ballinascreen, a last minute goal giving the Derry team the win by 1 point.
On Saturday evening all the teams headed off for their knock out games. Our boys met Leitrim team Gortletteragh and despite a massive 2nd half comeback they bowed out on a score of 3-7 to 1-11.Eoghan Rua made it through to the shield final which the won convincingly having beaten St Ailbhes of Limerick in the semi and St Ciarans of Roscommon in the final - a fantastic achievement for the girls and management.
Doonbeg went into the cup final having won their semi final in a free kick contest and they went to extra time in the final before eventually losing to Annaduff.Ballinascreen girls team also go to the cup final, which finished a draw after extra time and the two finalists share the winners tag.
In all it was a marvelous weekend of football and there are too many people to thank individually but in general the parents of the kids, the pitch committee who had the place looking fantastic, the club members who prepared sandwiches and food for the visiting teams, Foroige for hosting the disco on Saturday for all the local teams, the people who manned the lotto table, The Enniscrone Show committee who put up their flags a week early and loaned us tables, Muddy Burns for the food (and the DJ) and the volunteers during the week who help clean and set up the centre. It was a massive community effort so well done to all.
